Odd time signatures are tricky for some guitar players but actually are not that difficult.
Today's lesson is a heavy metal rhythm in 11/4 although there is a 4/4 change in the middle of the example.

Bill Conti - Gonna Fly Now solo section (vid) (BI)
The Rocky theme. One of my favorite soundtracks.
The guitar solo is simple, yet beautiful and really makes sense inside the tune.

Latin Rhythm Guitar (I)
Latin music has a great impact to modern music styles (jazz, rock etc.) and it has a unique flavor.
Real Book of jazz is full of latin standards (like bossas) and today's lesson is based on the very well known and favorite tune among musicians, the "Black Orhpeus".

Autumn Leaves (simple chord melody) (I)
Chord melody is the technique to play the melody of a tune simultaneosly with the chords (harmony).
One effective way (but not the only one) it's to have always in the top note of the chord the note of the melody. This means that you have done your chord homework (forms, inversions, including intervals etc) so you'll be able to make it happen...:-D

Allan Holdsworth Chromatic Legato (A)
Allan Holdsworth is undoubtedly one of the most advanced - technically and harmonically wise - players. But also one of the most underatted. Not in the guitar world of cource but out of it. It seems to me that he never took the credit he deserves. His contribution in the guitar is tremendous. From his smooth legato sax style lines, to unique and "uncommon" chord voicings, to his famous chorus sound.

Dominant 9th Chords (I)
Dominant 9th chords are built from 1st, major 3rd, natural 5th, minor 7th and major 9th degrees of the Mixolydian scale. Mixolydian is one of the 7 modes of the major scale (here some brief intro of The Modes Of The Major Scale ).
So the dom 9th chord type is: 1 3 5 b7 9.

"Pickupology" - Bill Lawrence's share of wisdom
Ok now, as we all know the pickup of the guitar is probably the biggest factor of how a guitar sounds...(i know, i know...setup, bridge and......ehhh....did i hear from the bottom of the cave the "forbidden" word?...did you say wood? :-D...)
So, here is a brief but clearly explained article for pickups from one of the truly greats, Mr. Bill Lawrence.

C Major Ascending Tapping Lick (vid) (I)
Today's lesson is an ascending tapping lick in the key of C major.
These long runs are very effective when played up to tempo so try to speed it up.
As usual start very slowly to "feel" the lick and gradually speed it up to max.

Legato-String Skipping Dorian Lick (IA)
Today's lesson is a legato/string skipping lick in B Dorian mode (A major).
Start very slowly, make sure that you mute the non-played strings and gradually increase the tempo.
